Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp revealed that he apologized to Alex ferguson after waking up the former Manchester United manager in the wee hours of the morning.
Ferguson sent a congratulatory message to Klopp as Liverpool ended their 30-year wait to be crowned Premier League champions following Manchester City’s defeat to Chelsea in June.
When Klopp’s celebrations with his players at a Liverpool hotel finally ended, it was approaching 3.30am, but the German was still eager to respond to Ferguson’s message.
He did not anticipate that the 78-year-old Scotsman would still have his phone on by the bed when he sent his reply, and Ferguson later revealed that Klopp had accidentally woken him up.
“The problem was, I came back to my room late that night and couldn’t sleep right away, so I checked the messages I received and one of them was from Alex Ferguson,” Klopp told reporters ahead of Liverpool’s opening game. English high season against Leeds on Saturday.
“I just responded in a very polite way I think. It was around 3.30am-4am and I didn’t expect him to have his phone next to his bed. I didn’t want to wake him up. If that happened, sorry Alex!
“But we haven’t been in contact since then. He is still the former Manchester United manager and I don’t think he wants to tell me too much about Liverpool’s success.”
