Joyless PRO14 final: another warning about the future of SA

One rugby lover’s mess may be another’s oil painting … that’s one of the charms of the braai-side discussion of the game.

But I found myself leaning well toward the previous category as I watched Saturday’s PRO14 final in Dublin, as the Leinster machine duly edged towards a complete, industrial 27-5 win over the unattractive and frankly leaden fellow Irish Ulster.

Leinster barely helped the seriousness of the occasion by starting with a little less than his strongest XV, clearly such was his confidence in getting the job done and preserving the legs of some of his key personnel for bigger image requirements (a flaw usually). Northern Hemisphere club system, maybe?) a week earlier: European Cup quarterfinals against Saracen English heavyweights.
