José Mourinho praised his forward for a spectacular performance against Southampton as Tottenham rallied to win 5-2.
Son Heung-min scored four, all set up by Harry Kane, before the latter scored the fifth to give up the first three league points of the Premier League season to Spurs.
The coach noted after the game that a fight in the second half was the product of the strong mentality of a handful of players, after he made changes to his starting lineup and the connection between Kane and Son came to the fore.
“I think the second half was really good,” he told BT Sport.
“We started quite well but then we lost control of the game in the first half, their forwards caused problems and we conceded a goal that was a replica of a goal we conceded last season.
“But I love the players who come off the bench with a special attitude and Gio[vani Lo Celso] and [Erik] Lamela did that. “
His comments could be interpreted as mischief to Tanguy Ndombele, who was substituted at half-time, or Dele Alli, who was completely out, but Mourinho was full of praise for the disinterest and quality shown by his attacking partner.
“Son was on fire and for me Harry Kane was the man of the match, what he did for the team.
“There are those who think that the forward is to score goals but the forward is to give a great dynamic to the offensive organization.
“With him backing up and connecting the game between the lines for Sonny to attack, the space they created was a problem they couldn’t solve.”
