Johnny Depp asked to quit the Fantastic Beasts franchise

  • Johnny Depp has announced his departure from Fantastic Animals franchise.
  • The announcement comes after he lost his defamation case against The Sun over allegations that he abused his ex-wife Amber Heard.
  • “I want to let you know that Warner Bros has asked me to resign my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts,” he wrote.

Johnny Depp issued a statement on Instagram, announcing that he will be leaving the Fantastic Animals franchise.

Ad Comes after losing his defamation case against The Sun about claims that he abused his ex-wife Amber Heard.

The actor was suing the editors of The Sun and the author of the article over the claims, which were made in April 2018.

“I want to let you know that Warner Bros asked me to resign my role as Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have respected and accepted that request,” the actor wrote.

“The surreal judgment of the court in the UK will not change my struggle to tell the truth and I confirm that I plan to appeal.

“My determination remains strong and I intend to prove that the accusations against me are false. My life and my career will not be defined at this time,” he continued.

Johnny continued to thank fans for their loyalty and support.

According to The GuardianThe news was confirmed by Warner Bros in a statement saying that his role as Grindelwald will be recast.
