Joburg EMS on high alert after flood advisory issued for parts of Gauteng

JOHANNESBURG – The South African Meteorological Service (SAWS) issued a flood warning for parts of Gauteng for Monday.

It started to rain this morning, and more downpours are forecast for the rest of the day.

Areas that could be flooded include Johannesburg, North Pretoria, and Krugersdorp.

SAWS forecaster Lehlohonolo Thobela: “… rain that could lead to localized flooding in flood-prone areas, ie low-lying areas, bridges and flood-prone areas around Gauteng are expected to have flooding due to destructive rain, especially today. ”

Meanwhile, emergency services in the city of Johannesburg said they were on high alert.

Spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi: “We want to urge our motorists who drive to exercise caution and have a safe following distance and to reach their various destinations safely.
