Springbok midfielder Elton Jantjies has revealed how his ‘fight’ with Vodacom Bulls wing Cornal Hendricks briefly troubled SA Rugby director of rugby, Rassie Erasmus.
Thousands of Bulls and Lions fans tuned in to their teams’ Facebook pages in anticipation of a ‘Fight Night’ between Jantjies and Hendricks on Wednesday night.
However, it turned out that the two did not actually step into the ring, but instead engaged in a virtual fight through a UFC video game.

As Jantjies said the citizenHowever, the marketing stunt even sparked a call from Erasmus.
“Rassie called me earlier this week asking me about this fight he was going to have with Cornal,” Janties said. “ He wanted to know what was going on and was worried that he might injure me.
‘It was kind of fun. But of course I would love to do proper boxing at some point; maybe possibly once I hang up my rugby boots. Everyone knows that I love this sport.
Actually, I only did it again recently, following the lifting of some of the Covid restrictions. Doing all the boxing exercises helps me a lot and has become a big part of my preparation for rugby.
“It helps me stay in shape, it keeps me in good shape and it makes me think faster and better. In boxing you have to be one step ahead of your opponent, so it’s important to be quick. ‘
