Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has tipped Kylian Mbappe, a player who remains connected to the Reds, to become the best player in the world for the next two to three years, in a conversation with Sky Sports.
The Frenchman has been excellent for Paris Saint-Germain since his € 180m (£ 166m) move from Monaco in 2017, having recorded 90 goals and 49 assists in just 120 competitive appearances for the capital club.
Transfer speculation is never far from Mbappe, as Liverpool has been associated with him on numerous occasions and Real Madrid also said it was interested in the services of the 2018 World Cup winner (Liverpool Echo).
The latest report linking Mbappe to the Anfield team comes from AS, which has claimed that the Ligue 1 giants are ready to let him go on a free transfer at the end of their current deal: the 21-year-old’s contract is extends into summer 2022 and PSG are reportedly desperate to avoid losing the striker before that.
At Sky Sports, Carragher chose his top 10 picks in the world football draft and mentioned Mbappe as his number one choice, saying, “I think he is very close to being the best player in the world and that will happen in the next two to three years. so I think it would be number one. “
TBR view:
Liverpool is a world-class club that has a world-class team, which Mbappe would complement very well, although the numbers involved in such a move would likely be dazzling.
The AS report suggesting that PSG is willing to let Mbappe leave for free in two years seems unrealistic, to put it mildly, especially given the progress he will have made in the next two years and how much of an asset he ‘ d be.
That said, weirder things have happened in football, and if Liverpool can get the Frenchman in their hands in the next year or two, then they will surely come to Anfield with much fanfare.
