In April 2018, the Hawks received information about police officers demanding R500 from an undocumented alien they had arrested in Mokopane, said Hawks spokesman Capt.Matimba Maluleke.

The Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation Unit carried out a sting operation that resulted in the couple’s arrest.

Both were sentenced to five years in direct prison and were declared incapable of possessing a firearm.

The Hawks welcomed the conviction.
