Is he a thief locked in my store?

An alleged thief had to sit still and wait for a Durban store owner to release him after he locked himself inside overnight.

The owner of Berea Home, located in the Berea Center, was surprised when he arrived at work Friday morning to find a man locked inside the store.

“The store owner made the surprise discovery when he entered the store and noticed that the store had been looted,” said Andreas Mathios, a spokesman for Blue Security.

When the owner saw CCTV footage, he realized that a suspect was still inside his store.

“Further investigation by the on-duty security company revealed that the suspect had somehow locked himself inside the store and spent the night behind a closet.”

“Blue Security was immediately dispatched to the scene and the suspect was arrested,” Mathios said.

He said the man was found in possession of 4,000 rand in cash and valuables that he had collected from the store overnight.

“Metro police also responded to the scene. The store was closed in the morning. Police are conducting an investigation,” Mathios said.

Police did not respond to inquiries about the incident.
