Cape Town – A severe cold front associated with a low-pressure upper-cut system is expected to hit the Western and Northern Cape, as well as the Eastern Cape from Wednesday night to Friday morning, says the Weather Service of SA (SAWS).
A 60% chance of rain is predicted in most of these areas, with a 100% chance of rain in Cape Agulhas, Riversdal, Mossel Bay and George.
This is more good news for dams in the Western Cape, averaging 79.2% (2019: 66.1%) on Monday. Cape Town’s dam levels stand at 99.5% (2019: 81.5%) after more rain fell over the Western Cape over the weekend.
Despite the end of September, the “wintry” weather has yet to show signs of abating. Another cold front could possibly hit next week on Wednesday, but this system is still developing.
SAWS has warned the public and small ranchers that snowfall, high winds, heavy rain, flooding, and very cold conditions can be expected.
Disruptive snowfall can be expected in the upper areas of the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and Northern Cape from Thursday evening through Friday.
Winds of between 30 and 40 km / h are expected around Cape Town, Ceres and Hermanus. Strong southerly winds are expected in locations over the western interior on Thursday.
A weather advisory has also been issued for KwaZulu-Natal, with more rain and cold temperatures expected this week.
This cold front will aid in the development of strong thunderstorms over Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo on Wednesday.
