The international Bafana Bafana repeats the mistakes he has made and has promised to improve

Kaizer Chiefs captain Itumeleng Khune has explained why he has made two identical mistakes in back-to-back Premier Soccer League (PSL) games.

Six days after handing over possession to Ovidy Karuru, who later scored during a 2-2 draw with Black Leopards, the seasoned goalkeeper made another mistake against SuperSport United on Tuesday night.

Khune tried to pass a pass to Nkosingiphi Ngcobo and the ball was intercepted by the opposition who then scored through Bradley Grobler and the Chiefs succumbed in a 2-1 loss to SuperSport.

The 33-year-old said he prefers to build from behind rather than kick the ball forward, but feels like he should now return to focusing on goalkeeping basics.

“I don’t know. I think I’m trying to do too much. I’m trying to be a player. [and] I’m trying to be a goalkeeper at the same time, “Khune said. SuperSport TV.

“I think I should be a goalkeeper again because I want the team to play more. I mean I don’t want us to keep playing the ball in the air.”

The loss to SuperSport extended the Chiefs’ winless streak to five league games and Khune vowed to improve his form between the posts.

“I want us to play more from behind and I want to search those pockets [of space] unfortunately tonight the boys [the opposition] I read the ball I wanted to play in Mshini’s pocket [Ngcobo], “he continued.

“They converted the opportunity and it is sad that he has given away two goals in two weeks. It is very bad and we have to work on it again because I have been playing for many seasons and I never made such mistakes.” ”

The consummate shot stopper has now conceded 10 goals in five league games this season, averaging two goals per game.

It remains to be seen whether Chiefs head coach Gavin Hunt will keep his faith in Khune when they face Bloemfontein Celtic in a league match at the iconic FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Nigerian international Daniel Akpeyi has been patiently awaiting his chance as Amakhosi’s second goalkeeper.
