The Clever Boys coach has sent a message to comfort his counterpart in charge of Amakhosi
Bidvest Wits coach Gavin Hunt messaged Kaizer Chiefs counterpart Ernst Middendorp saying that soccer is a lonely game when wins are hard to come by.
The Clever Boys mentor led his teammates to a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon at the FNB Stadium, saying that soccer is cutthroat business.
Following the victory over the record leaders of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), the Clever Boys appeared to have derailed the title ambitions of the Soweto giants.
“Professional football is a very lonely game if you don’t win. When you win, it’s okay and everyone loves you, ”Hunt told the media.
“When you don’t win, it’s bad. When you’re that close, obviously losing a game like that isn’t easy to handle.
“On a personal level, you don’t want to see people, especially the way they [Chiefs] they were at the top of the trunk for a time, only to lose it at the end. But we are in a cutthroat business. ”
Following the victory via a lone blow from Bienvenu Eva Nga, Wits moved to third place in the record table with 49 points and has maximized her chances of lifting the title if Amakhosi and Mamelodi Sundowns lose their remaining matches.
Coach Pitso Mosimane’s bosses and men have 53 points at the top, but Naturena’s giants enjoy an advantage based on goal difference.
However, Braamfontein’s team may steal the lucrative crown, as it could finish with 55 points in its last two games.
As Middendorp displayed a lonely figure and reportedly shied away from the media after his harsh defeat, he was quick to mourn his missed opportunities in his post-match analysis on television.
Meanwhile, the Chiefs took comfort in the fact that the reigning PSL champions lost 1-0 to relegation-threatened Baroka on Sunday night at Dobsonville Stadium, leaving the title race open.
In addition, the German coach’s campus has suffered a severe blow following the news that goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has been ruled out for the end of the season.
Akpeyi collided with striker Mxolisi Macuphu, leaving the Nigerian goalkeeper in shock and he was brought down on a stretcher just before the end of the first half at Calabash.
