The Amakhosi strategist strongly believes in the young blood that now threatens the positions of the older players at the club.
Kaizer Chiefs coach Gavin Hunt says his senior players Willard Katsande and Bernard Parker are no longer guaranteed spots following the appearance of impressive young players on the team.
Hunt had already promised to give budding players more chances after they impressed him in last Sunday’s MTN8 quarterfinal victory over Maritzburg United.
Players like Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Njabulo Bloem and Happy Mashiane saw little playing time with former coach Ernst Middendorp, but Hunt seems to have more faith in them.
Now the championship-winning coach has specifically mentioned that Katsande and Parker have their places under real threat from these emerging players.
“These guys [Katsande and Parker] they have rendered an incredible service to football. They have won a lot of trophies, they have been here for some time, ”Hunt told Marawa Sport Worldwide on Metro FM.
“I understand that people are always looking for something special. But until someone walks up, like right now with our situation, and raises their hand and says’ I’m willing. Both Willard and Bernard know that these young players are good as young players. [Njabulo] Bloem instead of Katsande.
“He had a fantastic game [against Maritzburg United], came and changed the game. But he has to have a consistent level of play. I have to give him chances, what I will do.
“And he has to keep challenging Willard, and Willard has to say, ‘These people are in my case.’ As in all sports, as in boxing, when you grow up, someone is going to be better than you.
“Like Bernard, he has some small children there, the [Lebogang] Lesako, [Keletso] Sifama approaches. These guys are going to challenge him. But right now I don’t see players being out of position unless someone actually raises their hand and says, ‘Okay, I’m here.’ Look at Bloem on Sunday. “
Parker, however, lasted the entire match against Maritzburg, while Katsande was suspended.
The Chiefs are now preparing to face Mamelodi Sundowns in Saturday’s Premier Soccer League (PSL) opening game.
