JOHANNESBURG – The Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) will now approach President Cyril Ramaphosa seeking intervention in the criminal matter against the late Dr. Abdulhay Munshi and Dr. Peter Beale.

Munshi was shot and killed by an unknown suspect.

He was a co-defendant in a wrongful death case along with Beale.

The HPCSA had previously written to authorities in an attempt to get the case out of court.

The council now heads to the highest office in the country, as HPCSA’s Kgosi Letlape explains.

“… there has been no recognition from the NPA and absolutely no commitment. Now, as the charges continue, we feel we need to bring this up with the head of state, given the serious implications of this case.”

Munshi was shot and killed outside his home last week. The motive for the attack remains a mystery.

Beale and Munshi were brought to court for wrongful death after the death of a 10-year-old boy after an operation. Beale was assisted by Munshi during the operation.
