How Matrix Rage Parties Became Broadcast Events – The Citizen

Video footage from the Rage matrix festival’s “superspreader” event showed dancing, shouting in songs and little social distancing, as some teens hugged and partied with their masks under their chins despite Covid-19 regulations.

The matrix party held over the weekend was marked as a super spreader event by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, who asked those who attended events across the country to self-quarantine for 10 days after several gave positive for Covid-19.

According to the event organizers in Ballito, regulations and protocols were put in place, including daily pre-screening, paperless tickets, cashless payment methods, daily temperature checks, a no-touch policy on arrival and in bars, and a Covid-19 compliance officer at all events.

But the images showed otherwise. In videos shared on Instagram by some attendees, the event looked like a pre-pandemic party with drinks, performances, dancing and singing, and no signs of social distancing.

Rage tickets were only available to be purchased by people over the age of 8.

DJs were also caught playing their sets without wearing masks.

Not only did the attendees test positive, but four staff members working for the vendors were also infected, organizers said.

“As such, we have sent multiple alerts directly to all attendees and their legal guardians that they provided as close family members and have provided all contact tracing information to the health department,” they said.

All Rage Festivals planned for the rest of the year and early next year have been postponed indefinitely following the outbreak.

A communication will be issued soon for ticket holders to receive their refund.
