An alleged home thief found himself in a difficult situation when he got caught in a window while trying to break into a house in Alabama on the outskirts of Klerksdorp in the northwest.
And he did what any reasonable person would do in a difficult situation: he screamed for help.
Lesego Tau, 39, appeared Monday in the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court charged with trespassing after he was allegedly found trapped and screaming from a window at a private residence in the early hours of Saturday morning.
According to Northwest police spokesman Colonel Adéle Myburgh, Tau was arrested after he was allegedly caught by the owner when he was caught trying to enter the house through a window.
“The owner, who went to bed at 22:00 on Friday, is alleged to have been woken up by a strange noise and went to investigate,” Myburgh said.
“He allegedly found Tau trapped in the window and screaming for help. The police were finally summoned and arrested. [Tau]. He was detained until his next court appearance on Friday for a formal bail request. “
In an unrelated incident, police in Leeudoringstad arrested four people for burglary and burglary, as well as possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The arrests came after police followed up on information received from the community about a suspicious vehicle circulating through the Kgakala section on Wednesday.
“Subsequently, the police detected and stopped the vehicle. During the search, the police found stolen property the same day on a farm,” Myburgh said. Police also found a 9mm pistol.
“Further investigation revealed that the gun was stolen from Piet Retief, Mpumalanga, during a business robbery in which one suspect was arrested while the others were fleeing the scene.”
Molawa Motsamai, 48, Vukani Mbongeni, 36, Wiseman Moyo, 48, and Solly Lithibe, 35, appeared on Friday in the Wolmaransstad trial court. They were denied bail and will be detained until their next court appearance on Friday.
The Northwest Police Commissioner, Lt. Gen. Seal Kwena, welcomed the arrests. He also thanked community members for their help in providing vital information that led to the arrests.
