Acquiring British citizenship is reported to be a factor that plays into scrumhalf Francois Hougaard mind as he reflects on a return to Pretoria with the Bulls.
Springbok, 32, has been linked to a move to the Bulls from English club Worcester Warriors, which he joined in 2016.
Afrikaans newspaper Relationship He reported Sunday that while the negotiations between Hougaard and the Bulls have gone well, he has yet to put pen to paper.
Hougaard, who boasts 46 tests, is considering extending his stay in Europe to obtain British citizenship, which he could obtain by the end of the 2021 season.
The report added that the Bulls soon want clarity on the matter as they need to fill the void left by outgoing Ivan van Zyl.
Since Jake White’s arrival as director of rugby at the Bulls, the franchise has been involved in an ongoing recruiting drive, with the latest signings being Springboks Marcell Coetzee and Johan Goosen.
