Provincial Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has ordered that the 72-hour trigger plan be implemented for the arrests of suspects involved in the murder of three people in Nelson Mandela Bay on Friday afternoon.
Two people were shot dead in an apparent hit in front of the ticket office of a bus company on Storey Street in Perridgevale in an incident that also claimed the life of an innocent bystander.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says that shortly after 4 p.m., a 21-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were greeted with a hail of bullets as they left the bus company offices after purchasing tickets to Gauteng.
An innocent bystander was also fatally shot by stray bullets as he left a supermarket on the premises.
The three deceased suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Meanwhile: Two suspects ages 29 and 36 are in custody after being arrested following a high-speed chase involving a silver-gray Honda Civic seen driving away from the crime scene.
Colonel Naidu says the vehicle with five occupants crashed into a lamp post on Neave Street in Shauderville after being chased by police.
The suspects dispersed in different directions and united anti-gang members, assisted by Mount Road police, managed to arrest two of them on Peddie Street in Korsten.
Two firearms were also recovered.
Colonel Naidu says the suspects face charges of attempted murder for shooting police officers, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and possession of stolen property after the Honda Civic was found to have been hijacked in Humewood earlier that day. .
Detectives are also investigating their possible link to the murders and are continuing to search for the remaining suspects.
