Durban – Police have opened an investigation file following the discovery of the body of a woman who was found on a Durban beach on Thursday afternoon.

Speaking to IOL, Allistair Barclay of Proficient Tactical Security said he received a call from a security guard informing him of an incident at Cutting’s Beach.

“He said he thinks there might be a body on the shore, but he was not sure. When I arrived, I saw the body and immediately informed my director and the police,” he said.

Due to the strong currents and windy conditions, the body was being ‘rolled’ in the surf and Barclay asked and contacted the police again to ask if he could move it.

“By the time the police arrived, the body would have returned to the sea. The officer gave me her approval to bring the body closer to shore,” he said.

Barclay said that as they brought the body closer, they noticed that the woman’s head was severed.

“They also cut off his hands and feet and removed his intestines,” he said.

He added that it was difficult to identify the breed of the female as she had been in the water for a long time.

The gruesome discovery comes just days after Inanda residents stumbled upon the body of a woman on a sports field.

The woman was later identified as Jessica Weyers, who had been reported missing.

Police are investigating further.
