JOHANNESBURG – Eskom said the national grid is currently restricted and warned once again that it could be forced to implement load shedding on short notice.

The utility company said that two generation units have been forced to shut down in the last 24 hours, adding to those that are under maintenance and currently in failure.

Eskom is calling on South Africans to use electricity sparingly and, despite the limitations, said rotating power outages are not scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

Spokesperson Sikonathi Mantshantsha said: “If there is a significant increase in breakdowns, load reduction may need to be implemented at short notice. Eskom teams are working around the clock to bring as many of these units back into service as possible. If necessary, Eskom will communicate in time. “
