Hawks spokesman Hangwani Mulaudzi resigned amid allegations of corruption.
But Malaudzi said his resignation, effective immediately, had nothing to do with the allegations, but rather a loss of passion for his job and concern that his life and that of his family are in danger.
He said he had been fighting for years.
“I made the decision to let myself go because there are problems here. Let me go and reflect on my life, ”Hangwani told TimesLIVE on Monday night. “I am still young, I have a young family, they cannot put me into political issues … This was a decision that was not made based on what is currently happening but, when you work, you must put all passion. But that passion is gone. “
In an open letter to Mulaudzi in October, Paul O’Sullivan, the forensic investigator and anti-corruption fighter, reminded the spokesman of his promise not to rest until all the corrupt cops were behind bars. In the letter, he calls Mulaudzi corrupt and accuses him of being a serial liar, a claim Mulaudzi has denied.
Mulaudzi also faces corruption allegations after his NPO received a R3m donation from the National Lottery Commission.
“[The resignation] it is effective immediately because it is something I have thought about. It’s not just about [the allegations] but if there are investigations they must come.
“The issue that was raised was the issue of conflict of interest due to the [National Lotteries Commission] But it is that I do not investigate, I only communicate but now they are putting me into this and making me a researcher.
“It is stressful because they can kill you at any moment. My family is paranoid because anything can happen. Look, I’m the face of the Hawks, one of the most prominent people. I’m not fighting with anyone, but resignation is something that I felt that, for the safety of my family, I should go.
“All my profile has been put in the public space, my house, everything. It’s very emotional. “
