DURBAN – Those implicated in a 700 million rand tender scandal in eThekwini municipality are expected to be arrested soon.

That’s according to the Hawks after raids on 15 homes belonging to city officials and service providers.

This raid is part of the ongoing investigations by the National Clean Audit Task Force on allegations of corruption in the Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Unit.

Speaker of the Falcons Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said that they have succeeded in seizing a large number of electronic documents and equipment.

“Hopefully we can know in a very short time what the next step in this investigation would be,” he said.

The investigation by the National Clean Audit Task Force has exposed a union that has been operating for more than 10 years.

“It’s not just your big tenders. Even your small tenders that needed services to be delivered as quickly as possible, you will find that there are companies that would be asked to tender some of this,” Mulaudzi said.

“They are not even in the database, they belong to the officials themselves.”

According to the police, the arrests are imminent.

The municipality has welcomed the investigation.

Ethekwini Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda said the city will abide by the investigation.

“So within the processes that are being carried out, we also carry out our own internal processes to make sure that those who claimed to be part of some act of corruption are effectively brought to the books and are treated within the institutional processes of the disciplinary process. “
