The Hawks arrested six people, including a prominent suspected gang leader, in a major drug trafficking bust in Cape Town.

On Thursday morning, the Hawks arrested Jerome “Donkie” Booysen, 57, as well as Kenneth Jerome Hansen, 55; Herbert Zoutman, 54; Jenen Jesmene Jansen, 41 years old; Clinton Langeveldt, 35 years old; and Kristo Carl Mariens, 28.

All six appeared briefly in Bellville Magistrates Court the same day, said Hawks spokesman Col. Katlego Mogale.

They face charges of violation of the Organized Crime Prevention Act.

“The Hawks believe the suspects are the main illegal drug traffickers and dealers in the province,” Mogale said.

“The suspects were arrested after turning themselves in after an intelligence-driven operation by the Western Cape Serious Organized Investigation [unit] from the Priority Criminal Investigation Directorate on suspicion of drug trafficking and drug trafficking activities, ”added Mogale.

Booysen was granted bail of R30,000 after the court found that he was already out on bail of R10000 in another case, and Hansen received bail of R20,000. The others were released on bail of 5,000 rand.

“They will appear in court again on April 29, 2021 to answer the charges,” Mogale said.
