CAPE TOWN – Local marching band Goodluck released a statement, apologizing for a widely circulated video of band members and sponsors violating COVID-19 regulations.
In the 39-second video that went viral on social media, no one was seen wearing a mask during the packed event that took place on Sunday. Nor was social distancing respected.
The performance of the popular musical group was held at La Parada in Constantia Nek.
The band took to Twitter today, stating that health and safety protocols were largely adhered to until the final three minutes of the show.
We would like to offer our sincerest apologies to all of our fans, friends and family. We had nothing but the best of intentions for Sunday’s performance and we are bitterly disappointed that things got out of hand for even 1 minute. It’s a massive reminder to stay alert. pic.twitter.com/BX94v0Mev0

This is very irresponsible to #The stop AND #Good luck. This blatant defiance of sensible rules could have dire consequences for the restaurant and entertainment industries. This conduct is unfair to others who operate within the rules. Those involved must be prosecuted. # COVID-19 https://t.co/cwcXhmaeBh

They have since apologized, saying they should have stopped the show to order everyone back to their tables, promising that an event like this would never happen again.
Since then, the band has canceled their “Get Lucky Summer Concerts” that were scheduled for this month.
