CAPE TOWN – The governing body of golf has called on the government to reopen the courses amid the coronavirus blockade.
Like many sports and activities, golf has stopped in recent weeks.

Golf RSA has submitted a proposal on behalf of the sport to the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa.

Golf RSA CEO Grant Hepburn said that while they realize that the government’s priority is the health and safety of citizens, golf is a contactless sport and is played in open spaces.

“Social distance in golf is easy, and based on that, our presentation talks about those factors, but obviously takes into account the economic impact of golf on the economy, its very large and very positive impact.”

He added that the proposal is in line with the five levels of government closure and considers measures that can be implemented in golf courses and facilities.

These include temperature testing, disinfecting workspaces, and limiting the number of people playing per hole.
We are also aware of trying to help caddy and casual workers get back to work, what we propose is that they help us control the aspects of social distancing. ”

Hepburn said they now await comments on the way forward.
