High-pitched screams were heard on Blaauwberg Road, shortly before 8 p.m., after the woman found her boyfriend’s body in her VW Polo, which was deserted on the busy street.
According to a source, the man had apparently left his girlfriend at work in Montague Gardens on Thursday morning, but did not bring her as scheduled.
“He took her to work and he was supposed to pick her up at 4 p.m., but he never came,” says the source.
“She couldn’t reach him and took home with a friend.
“When he got home, he called the tracking company and they told him where the car was.
“He went to Blaauwberg Road with a spare key and unlocked the car and that’s when he found it in the trunk and the screaming was heard.
“A private security officer heard the screams and the police were called to the scene.”
The source says that when police inspected the body, they found the man’s feet tied with cable ties and his head covered with a bag.
“This is the part that doesn’t make sense; the keys, his wallet and his cell phone were in the car and nothing seemed to be stolen,” says the source.
“He had cable ties around his feet and a bag over his head. So what really happened here is unclear. ”
At this stage, however, the police are not investigating a murder.
Police spokesman Sgt. Noloyiso Rwexana says a death investigation has been opened.
“A death investigation case was opened for investigation after a 28-year-old man’s body was found inside the trunk of his vehicle at 8 p.m. Thursday night on Blaauwberg Road.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation, an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.”
Community Police Forum (CPF) President Dave Harris says the incident has raised several questions.
“It is a very shocking incident as this occurred on the busiest highway in Table View,” says Harris.
“We hope the autopsy will provide clarity on what happened, but we are calling anyone with information to come forward.
“Blaauwberg Road is very busy and someone must have seen something.”
