The state’s case against the wife of former Minister Malusi Gigaba has been postponed, pending a lawsuit that it has filed with the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria.

Norma Gigaba appeared briefly in Pretoria Central Magistrates Court on Monday on charges of assault and intentional damage to property.

She is expected to address the High Court this week, represented by renowned senior attorneys, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi and Dali Mpofu, to challenge her arrest.

She was detained in August after she allegedly damaged a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon belonging to Malusi Gigaba’s friend, trade unionist Peterson Siyaya.

News24 previously reported that he spent one night in police cells, but was granted bail of 5,000 rand the following day.

The 40-year-old mother of two remains out on bail and declined to comment on the matter out of court Monday morning.

He is expected to appear in court again on October 23.

News24 previously reported that in a statement to the Hawks, Malusi Gigaba claimed that his wife called “counterintelligence people” to come to the couple’s home in the days leading up to their arrest, an experience that he claimed left him behind. feeling “threatened, totally (sic) and unsafe in my own home”.

Malusi Gigaba’s statement, contained in the Hawks file against his wife, appears to support media speculation that his wife’s arrest was motivated by an alleged threat to her life. However, so far she has not been charged in connection with any such charges.

Last Friday, News24 reported that in court documents, Norma dismissed the Hawks’ claims that her arrest was related to an alleged murder plot against her husband, which she described as a “fabricated ruse to justify my harassment using state resources.”

She recently removed her married name from her social media accounts and is using her maiden name, which is Mngoma.
