Gift of the Givers restores isolation wing at EC hospital

MAKHANDA – Coronavirus cases in the Eastern Cape are on the rise.

The local government has taken many steps to try to stop the spread.

The Gift of the Givers is helping too.

An isolation wing was restored at Settlers Hospital in Makhanda.

The R750,000 intensive care facility has 20 beds and oxygen points and the organization installed it in just five days.

“As beneficiaries of this, we are very privileged and very excited to receive this and open the district,” said Johannette Ferreira, interim district manager.

The founder of the organization says that with the increase in COVID-19 infections, something needed to be done quickly.

“We realized that decentralizing treatment will be much better,” Imtiaz Sooliman said.

Gift of the Givers has other health facilities on its radar where help is urgently needed.
