JOHANNESBURG – The Gauteng Department of Education said parents who have used its online school admissions portal to request placement for their children will have just seven days to accept or decline their offer.

MEC Panyaza Lesufi gave an update on the application process in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon.

He said more than 157,000 first and eighth graders have used his portal to secure a spot in next year’s academic year.

Lesufi added that parents should be informed of the status of their application in the coming days.

“We are pleased to announce to our parents and students that from this Thursday, October 1, 2020 until November 30, 2020, we will launch the offers to parents. Beginning this Thursday, parents will receive text messages saying they have applied to School X, their child has been accepted to School X.

He said that not everyone will be placed in their preferred schools.

“The space we have, as a basic education department here in Gauteng, and the number of applications, do not match. We have more applications than the available spaces. “
