JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has given 1st and 8th grade parents one week to accept or decline their child’s placement.
Lesufi has updated the 2021 academic calendar applications.
During the briefing, the MEC said that more schools should be built in the province to meet demand.
Lesufi said that schools are stabilizing with the new paradigm created by COVID-19.

“We had to put two systems in one. For example, it speeds up test scores, your assignments, your project grades in case we have a second wave and we can’t write tests, we’ll use it to say you passed you don’t . “
Lesufi said he anticipates the curriculum will only stabilize in two years.
The MEC also expressed concern that 5 percent of students have not yet returned to school.
Lesufi was candid about the challenges of COVID-19 and said the virus exposed the inequalities that still exist in the education system.

“To be frank, COVID exposed us. It really brought the reality of inequalities back, to say that after 27 years we thought we had moved but we haven’t done enough,” the MEC said.
Lesufi said that demand for new schools and school improvements has increased, but has been delayed by COVID-19.
She remained positive about the outlook for the school placement process, but again urged parents to accept their school assignment to avoid delays.
