Mamelodi Sundowns criticized Uruguayan midfielder Gaston Sirino for discrediting the club with his public statements about his desire to leave the club.
Sirino was quoted this week by Soccer Laduma, where he spoke about his intention to leave the Brazilians, but senior Sundowns official Yogesh Singh said the club is disappointed with the way the player behaved.
Sirino, 29, who has been one of the most influential players for Brazilians in recent seasons, has been strongly linked with a move by Egyptian Al Ahly to meet coach Pitso Mosimane.
“We are disappointed with the way that Gaston has behaved when going to the media,” said Singh, who suggested that Sirino could be punished.
“We don’t think you are doing this alone. He is being trained by outside forces that are ruining him.
“The club’s rules apply to all players, they are clearly established in the player’s contract. Negative statements in the media that may discredit the club will never be tolerated and the consequences will follow ”.
