South African motorists will pay substantially less for gasoline and diesel starting Wednesday, as local fuel prices fall in line with historic falls in the international price of crude oil.
All grades of gasoline will drop to R1.74 per liter from midnight on Tuesday, while diesel will decrease between R1.56 and R1.61 per liter.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will decrease by R2.23 per liter, while the maximum retail price of LPGas will decrease by R2.62 per kilogram.
The Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Gwede Mantashe, said in a statement that the main reason for the drop in fuel prices was a decrease in the average reference price of Brent crude oil from $ 35.25 to $ 20.00 per barrel for the period under review.
World crude oil prices have plummeted since the coronavirus outbreak began as economies close and motorists stay home.
After the price adjustment, one liter of 95 octane unleaded gasoline will drop to R12.22 from R 13.96 in the interior zone. On the coasts, motorists will pay R11.52 per liter.
