Radio presenter and businessman Gareth Cliff has responded to the backlash over his open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa, claiming that those who thought he was speaking for whites are worrying about him and not about the problems he raised.

In his letter, Gareth stated that “the patience and emotional emotional state of South Africans are on the edge of the knife” during the national closure and many were “losing hope.”

“Many of us are no longer afraid of the virus. It is our health and we will take risks, thank you. We fear the damage that its closure is causing in the economy, in the lives and livelihoods of people,” he said, warning that not obtaining People’s trust could end in disaster.

While many expressed outrage at Gareth’s open letter, the star told listeners Cliff Central shows this week that he was speaking for no one but himself.

“The people who say: ‘Oh, you are speaking on behalf of whites or people with money’, I am of course, you are projecting me in this story, it is not about me. This all seems strange to me. ”

He also criticized claims that he was being disrespectful to the President and said He had nothing personal to gain from his open letter.

Gareth noted that some columnists had shared their feelings, but did not get the same backlash, claiming it may have been because they are not white.

“I read Barney Mthombothi’s column in the Sunday Times yesterday, a man I greatly respect. He was echoing the feelings I have … I don’t know if he received this hatred, maybe it was because he is not white. “
