Durban – Free State Premier Sefora Ntombela has been accused of spending millions on events as residents struggled to put food on the table.

In a question submitted by the Democratic Alliance in the Free State Legislature, it was found that between June 2018 and July 2020 the Office of the First State of the Free State spent R214 417 750.38 on event management services.

District Attorney Dr. Roy Jankielsohn said that four companies were the main beneficiaries of this generosity, namely Dots design Agency R59 977998.21, Quail Media-Cubicle Trading JV R54 758 060.58, Thepa Trading R61 335 128, 27 and Central Plaza Investments R38. 446 573.31.

He said that spending over 26 months averaged more than R8 million on event management services per month.

“This proves that the Prime Minister’s Office is still the milking parlor for taxpayers’ money, even after it was vacated by ‘the milking master’, former Prime Minister Ace Magashule,” he said.

During his 2019 budget debate speech, Ntombela said that this financial year will do more with less. At the time, she said that not a penny will be wasted.

“We will account for every penny we use to meet the aspirations of our people. We will strictly adhere to cost-cutting measures,” he said.

Jankielsohn said in his last speech on the budget of the Prime Minister’s Office, Ntombela indicated that the successful growth and development of the province’s spending depended on building a capable, ethical and developmental state.

He said that Ntombela said that the successful growth and development of this province depends on building a capable, ethical and developmental state.

However, his spending on events management added no value to his commitment to reducing waste and meeting the aspirations of the people in the Free State, which has an unemployment rate of 38.4% and increasing levels of poverty and hunger. .

He said that given the terrible situation in the province, the Prosecutor’s Office considers this unnecessary expense to be incurred at the expense of the poorest of the poor by an incapable, unethical and indifferent Prime Minister of the Free State criminal. Excessive amounts of taxpayer funds paid by official government parties create a legitimate impression that these funds could be abused to finance the ruling party.

The district attorney will present more questions to determine the exact nature of this wasteful event management expense to the companies involved, which at first glance appears to be blatant looting rather than cutting costs.
