Four people from car killed in Tongaat collision

Durban – Four people were killed in a collision on the north coast of KZN on Thursday afternoon.

According to the KZN police, Umhlali SAPS is investigating a wrongful death case.

According to police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele, a vehicle was traveling eastbound when it collided with another vehicle on the R614, Noordsberg Road.

“Three people were declared dead at the scene. The circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, ”he said.

According to Paul Herbst of IPSS Medical Rescue, four people in a vehicle died. The fourth person died in the hospital, he said.

“Upon arrival, paramedics found that two occupants of a vehicle had suffered fatal injuries.

The three additional occupants of the same vehicle suffered critical injuries and one patient was seriously trapped in the wreckage.

“Unfortunately, the patient went into cardiac arrest before being released and, despite advanced life support intervention, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

He said the remaining two critically injured patients were taken to hospital.

“Shortly after arriving at the hospital, one of the patients succumbed to his injuries.”

This brought the death toll to four.

Herbst said the two people in the second vehicle were “lucky to escape” with minor injuries.

In another incident, on Thursday afternoon, there was a collision between a taxi and a truck on the N2 near Gingindlovu.

“While the patient was in the care of advanced life support paramedics, the Rural Metro fire department used hydraulic rescue tools to free the injured driver.”

Herbst said the remaining 14 passengers in the taxi suffered minor to moderate injuries.

“The truck driver was lucky to escape unscathed.”
