Pretoria – Two suspects were arrested for rape and carjacking that took place in the Limpopo areas of Namakgale and Phalaborwa, the SAPS said on Friday.
“The suspects, who are believed to be part of a group that has been terrorizing community members in these areas for some time, were arrested after members of the community policing forum informed the police about their whereabouts at the Seloane village. The police acted quickly to arrest the suspects, ”said spokesman Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe.
On December 5, a 43-year-old man and his partner, 31, were reportedly traveling in a bakkie to the village of Seloane and took four unknown men, one of them occupying the front seat. On the R71 road near Seloane, one of the men suddenly pointed a firearm at the driver and motioned for him to head into the bushes.
The group stole a couple of cell phones, an undisclosed amount of money, and demanded the car keys.
“The driver was attacked and tied with cables in both hands. The suspects tried to drive the vehicle but failed, apparently due to mechanical problems, ”said Ngoepe.
“The four suspects then took turns raping the woman and then fled the scene on foot. The victims managed to reach the police station and reported the incident ”.
The two detainees are scheduled to appear at the Namakgale Magistrates Court soon. Ngoepe said the duo could be linked to other similar cases throughout the Mopani district and that the persecution of the other two suspects continued.
He urged anyone with information that could lead to his arrest to contact the police.
