Old Springbok scrumhalf Paul bayvel he is fighting the toughest battle of his life.

Bayvel, 71, was diagnosed earlier this year with stage 4 lung cancer that has now spread to his spine, his daughter confirmed.
“Our family is separated by confinement, and our father, our parents, the king of our tribe, is in the hospital and we cannot visit him. Earlier this year he was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer (it had spread to his backbone. The prognosis is not good But we are standing on the Word and praying for a miracle, “ Jo-Jo Bayvel posted on Facebook.
Bayvel played 10 tests for the Springboks between 1974 and 1976.
The highlight of his career was playing all four tests against the All Blacks on the 1976 tour, a series the Boks won 3-1.
The floating-legged scrumhalf played its provincial rugby for Transvaal (now called the Lions) and will fall as one of the best scrumhalves produced by the province.
Lions fans will also fondly remember Bayvel’s Halfback association with legendary former flyhalf Gerald Bosch.
