Former professional rugby player Gerwyn Price won a first world darts title on Sunday, defeating two-time champion Gary Anderson 7-3 in the final.

The 35-year-old Price, who once played as a prostitute for Neath and the Glasgow Warriors, as well as participating in rugby league, is the first Welshman to win the world title.

He broke into a 5-1 lead in the best-of-13 final and, although he wavered with the title in sight, Anderson couldn’t capitalize.

“It’s going to take a couple of days to take in,” Price told Sky Sports.

“This means the world to me.

“I was looking at the scoreboard and it was 6-3 and I thought, ‘I have some darts, hopefully I can get more chances.’

“But I took a lot of opportunities and thought, ‘Please give me another chance,’ and I had to make Gary fail to give myself one more chance.”
