Former Harry Gwala District Mayor Mluleki Ndobe dies

Former KwaZulu-Natal ANC Deputy Leader and Mayor of Harry Gwala District Township, Mluleki Ndobe, died at his home in Umbilo.

The death has been confirmed as suicide.

According to the police spokesman, Colonel Thembeka Mbele, Umbilo police responded to the incident. Ndobe was at home with his family at the time and his wife found his body. Ndobe is believed to have used his firearm to shoot himself.

“No suicide note [was] found and there was no suspicion that the deceased could commit suicide. The deceased was later transferred to a morgue, “Mbele said.

Earlier, Ndobe’s death was confirmed by ANC provincial spokesperson Nhlakanipo Ntombela.

“We can confirm that he passed away last night after 23:00 … He has not been well for a while with cancer. Soon we will visit the family to learn about the circumstances surrounding his passing and what really happened,” Ntombela said. News24 on Saturday morning.

Ndobe was vice president of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature at the time of his death.

The party has said it was “shocked and saddened” by his untimely death.

Ndobe was responsible for coordinating the eThekwini Regional Task Force after the dissolution of the regional executive committee before the next regional conference.

He has been described as “a servant of the people, a dedicated and disciplined cadre who had served the movement.”

In all the responsibilities that the organization gave him, he remained an activist focused on improving the lives of our people.

The province’s SACP described Ndobe’s death as a “great loss”.

“It is a loss for South Africa and for the ANC,” said SACP Provincial Secretary Themba Mthembu.

He described Ndobe as a comrade who “carried the true spirit of the liberation movement.”

“It is a great, great loss,” Mthembu said.

Ndobe was once charged with the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League (ANCYL) secretary Sindiso Magaqa. However, the charges were provisionally dropped in the Umzimkhulu Magistrates Court last year due to insufficient evidence.
