former Eskom executive confused by a series of suspensions

The next morning, March 11, he was asked to attend a meeting with Eskom’s chairman of the board of directors, Zola Tsotsi, at headquarters, Megawatt Park.

He said that he and some other Eskom officials were taken from Tsotsi’s office to the boardroom, where some board members were present. What Koko said the day before would finally happen.

“Mr. Tsotsi never wasted time. He said there are four executives who are going to be suspended. He mentioned them by name. He mentioned two things about why they are going to be suspended. One regarding the investigation that they are going to do and do not want officials to be present and, two, the investigation should cover the performance issue. Therefore, you ask us to assist you and act in the executive positions that are going to be suspended. He asked me to act in group capital, at Dan’s [Marokane’s] position. We all agreed to act, ”Masango said.

He told the commission that he had a meeting with Marokane, with whom he had a good relationship. Marokane told him that there was “politics” behind the suspensions, to which Masango said that “it would make it difficult for me to act in your position” and that he preferred to reject the application to occupy the position.

“Dan tells me, ‘No, Abram, don’t do that.’

He said that after meeting Marokane he received a phone call from Koko, saying that he knew she was “talking” about what was happening.

“Even when I said ‘are you talking’, I always wondered what was going on. He suspected two things, be it a phone idiot or a follower. I had that suspicion, but I can’t confirm it, ”he said.

Masango testified that he had been threatened after testifying in February 2018 about the events in a parliamentary portfolio committee related to the events.

“I don’t know by whom, but from time to time people would follow me and sometimes when I was sitting in a restaurant, people would come in and take photos of me. Then I started to be careful, and wherever I went, I decided not to go alone, ”he said.

Masango said he went to a police station to report an incident at his home.

“I went to the police station because there was a drone on top of my house. It started to worry me and I went to the police station and reported it, ”he said. However, a case was not opened.

“As we speak, I still feel very insecure. If I talk about the drone issue, it happened twice. At some point I called the provincial commissioner, Mr. Zuma [Mpumalanga police commissioner Mondli Zuma], and I told him I have this situation. To this day, I am still very attentive to what is happening to me, ”he said.
