JOHANNESBURG – KwaZulu-Natal MEC Bheki Ntuli said that the car accident that left 13 people dead, including an unborn baby, was a flagrant violation of traffic laws.
Authorities have spent the day cleaning up the scene after Tuesday’s accident that was allegedly caused by a truck driver failing to stop at an intersection near Wartburg.
Four vehicles were involved in the accident, including a minibus taxi carrying most of the passengers who died.
Ntuli has told authorities not to rest until they find the trucker who fled the scene.
“We understand that these people were for a word and that they were going to work. It is unfortunate that this has happened. Now we know that there are five people who have survived, they are in the hospital, but they are seriously injured ”.
At the same time, the Minister of Transport, Fikile Mbalula, has expressed his devastation at the reckless and negligent driving in the wake of the fatal accident.
