Five trucks were set on fire on the R59 highway between Parys and Sasolburg on Saturday night, police said.
Brig Motantsi Makhele said police were alerted around 8.50pm.
“Drivers allege that a truck was bombarded with gasoline and forced to stop. Other trucks were fired upon, forcing them to stop.
“The drivers fled to a nearby field and then set fire to four trucks.”
Police said the motive for the attack is under investigation and arrests have not yet been made.
The truckers were treated for shock at Parys District Hospital.
This comes after numerous attacks on truckers on the road between Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal on Thursday night.
The Sunday Times reported that approximately 30 trucks had been attacked in the past week.
The motive for the attacks is unclear at this time.
Meanwhile, the National Trucking Foundation (NTF) plans a march at the Transnet port offices in Durban for Monday, demanding that foreign drivers be prevented from picking up cargo because they pose a “safety threat” to the truck. country.
