The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) said today that it has paid more than R2 billion in COVID-19 benefits.
FIU Commissioner Teboho Maruping said more than 77,000 employers have submitted applications and that the FIU has paid R2.2 billion (R2 241 402 841.96) for COVID relief benefits and R838 million for normal benefits since 16 April 2020 to date.
“When we receive requests from employers, we verify the information to make sure that the employees who are claiming appear in our system. When we identify inconsistencies, we send the query to the employer for verification, ”said Maruping.
He added that employees who may qualify for COVID-19 Temporary Employer / Employee Relief Scheme (TERS) Benefits may not receive money because of them because companies have not applied on their behalf or have corrected the information to allow the FIU pay on time
“The FIU is concerned that as of today, 220 768 employees who may collectively be entitled to up to R927 694 773 in benefits are having their payments delayed pending verification by employers because some of the beneficiaries do not appear in the FIU system or the information given is insufficient. “
The South African National Employers Association (NEASA), in a newsletter to its members, said there are still many anomalies surrounding the TERS claims process.
“Employers who have submitted an online application but have not received confirmation on whether the claim has been approved or rejected should log in to the system and use the” Payment Breakdown Report “to determine if the claim has been processed , approved or rejected, and if it is rejected, for what reason, “NEASA said.
