Dramatic footage shows Brackenfell residents and EFF protesters standing to attention as the party protests a private event held by the parents of Brackenfell High School allegedly attended by only white students.

The EFF protested a second time outside of school on Monday, following news reports and accusations on social media that the event was attended by only white-plate students.

However, angry community members denied there was racism at the school, Netwerk24 reported.

Earlier Monday, video footage showed angry members of the Brackenfell community confronting EFF protesters.

After a heated exchange, blows were thrown.

In another video captured when News24 arrived at the scene, public order police could be seen separating community members and trying to defuse tensions.

The Western Cape Department of Education previously said that the event was not a school or department sponsored event, but was a private event.

Last week, there were claims that not all students were invited. One parent claimed on social media that only white students and two teachers attended, Cape Argus reported.

However, Netwerk24 quoted two community members on Monday as saying that the school was not racist and that there were many reasons why some students were not attending, such as parents’ fear of the spread of Covid-19.

This is a developing story.
