A fire engulfed the Alice Magistrates Court building in the Eastern Cape.
The Alice Magistrates Court building in the Eastern Cape has been destroyed, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development said on Saturday.
“Most parts of the magistrates court caught fire, except only the regional court, which is located in a separate building within the magistrates court compound. There were no casualties in the fire,” said department spokesman Steve Mahlangu.
An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.
Mahlangu said the provincial administration of the department would meet to plan the provision of judicial services.
“In due course, the department will communicate widely on how and where members of the public in Alice will continue to access services,” he added.
Last month, a fire broke out in the economic building of the nearby Fort Hare University. No one was injured in the fire that swept through conference rooms and offices.
