Failure to wear a mask in public (which is mandatory), after receiving a verbal instruction from a law enforcement officer to do so, will result in a fine of R1,500 or six months in jail, or both.
The admission of guilty fines for other types of crimes that require the offender to appear in court will not be allowed.
These include failure by a driver or operator of a public transportation vehicle to take steps to ensure that a person using public transportation wears a mask or an article to cover their nose and mouth.
Nor would fines be allowed for the fault of managers or owners of buildings used by the public who did not ensure that people who entered were wearing masks.
The sale, distribution or dispensing of liquor for consumption outside and in the place is prohibited and no fines of guilt for such crimes will be accepted.
The transport of liquor is prohibited and a person found to be in contravention of this will be fined R3,000.
However, the transportation of alcohol required by the industry to produce hand sanitizers is permitted. Transport of liquor for export purposes and from manufacturing plants to storage facilities is also permitted.
