Cape Town – The heartbroken widow of a Retreat man, who was mugged and stabbed to death on a train, is asking for help from witnesses who may have seen her attackers.
Chanice Peters, 29, says on February 11 she anxiously waited for her husband Randall, 39, to come home from work as they had planned surprises for each other on Valentine’s Day, but instead They called her to the Retreat train station to identify her body.
The distraught woman says she was told the box of chocolates she had bought for her was found in the train car, covered in her blood after heartless thieves stabbed it multiple times.
“Randall has four children and worked at the Aroma Drop Inn Liquor Shop in Lansdowne,” he says.
“He wasn’t the type to use a cell phone, so I called his work every day to make sure he arrived safely.
“On February 11, he went to work normally and arrived safely. We talked during the day I called him at work and we still talked about our Valentine’s surprises and I wanted to surprise him with the cell phone I bought him. “
Chanice says she started to worry when he hadn’t arrived by 7pm.
“My friend who works at the station called me and asked if Randall is home and I said no, I’m still waiting. Then he said he had to go check it out, they found a dead man on a train, “he says.
“I went and when the police spoke to me, they asked me what I was wearing and I told them. They asked me if I was ready and took me to the carriage.
“I only stepped foot and I could see her clothes, but I couldn’t get close.
“His cousin came to identify the body and they told me that his silver watch, chain, bracelet and his Nike bag were stolen.
“They told me he was stabbed in the head, face, neck and chest and that the box of chocolates he bought was in the carriage covered in blood.”
Chanice says that since the murder, no arrests have been made as the police are struggling to find witnesses and she is asking for help.
“If anyone saw anything, go to the Kirstenhof police station. I beg you, it is not just for me, but for her four children.
“His two-year-old son Maurice keeps asking if Dad is still on the train going home.”
