The co-CEO of Europe’s largest online retailer will step down next year so his wife’s career can take priority.
Rubin Ritter has been co-director of German fashion company Zalando since 2010 and his departure will leave founders Robert Gentz and David Schneider in charge.
Ritter is responsible for strategy and communications in the management team and his contract was due to run until November 2023.
But he said: “I want to spend more time with my growing family. My wife and I have agreed that for the next few years, your career ambitions should take priority.
“And in regards to my own future, I’m looking forward to taking time to explore new interests beyond Zalando.”
“In the months that remain, I will ensure that we continue to make rapid progress in executing our strategy,” he added.
Mr. Ritter will step down at the next annual general meeting, which is generally held in May of each year.
Zalando was founded in 2008 and now serves 35 million customers in 17 countries.
Company president Cristina Stenbeck said the board regretted Ritter’s decision, but respected her reasons and appreciated her giving the company enough time to organize the management transition.
