The mutilated body of a three-year-old boy was found in Thembalihle in Estcourt, KwaZulu-Natal, on Friday.

“A nail went through his skull and his eyes and genitals were removed,” said a statement issued by the KwaZulu-Natal Social Development MEC Nonhlanhla Khoza.

The boy disappeared while in the care of his father.

“The grandmother had last seen the boy the night before sleeping next to his father. However, the next morning, the grandmother could not find the couple in the house. “

A search of the area led to the discovery of his body in the bushes.

“The police must quickly conclude the investigation and arrest the perpetrators involved in this murder of an innocent child. The police investigation should delve into how this child disappeared at home while in the care of his father. This is tragic and the family needs to find closure after this murder, ”Khoza said.

He called for maximum prison sentences to be imposed on those convicted of the murder of women and children.

MEC Khoza said the government was deeply saddened that women and children continued to die at the hands of the people they entrusted their lives to.

“We call on members of society to isolate those involved in such horrible murders,” he added.

“We do not apologize for asking for maximum prison sentences for those convicted of the murder of women and children. We want anyone involved in any form of gender violence to be removed from society and imprisoned for life. We have too many women and children murdered in our province and the country, ”he said.
