JOHANNESBURG – The Hawks made a breakthrough in the matrix paper leak scandal, arresting a 31-year-old man.

Themba Daniel Shikwambana was arrested last week on Wednesday following a serious corruption investigation by the Hawks.

He appeared in Johannesburg Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with the theft of the Maths Paper 2 exam.

He was granted a bond of 1,000 rand.

It is understood that Shikwambana works for the company contracted by the Department of Basic Education to print the 2020 matrix exams.

Last month, the Maths Paper 2, Physical Science, and Life Science tests were leaked just days apart.

Hawks spokesman Katlego Mogale said: “The court detained Shikwambana pending his bail request schedule for yesterday November 30, 2020. Investigations into the leakage of other documents are still continuing.”
